Handphone & Kisah Cinta

I have been using this RM99 pink LG phone for the past 4 months, and it really served me well, despite the lack of all the smart functions (it can't even receive MMS). Handphone itu juga telah menjadi topik perbualan, antaranya adalah:

"Errrr... ko memang suka pakai teknologi yang dah obsolete ek?"

"Kalau kau nak beli handphone baru ajak aku tau. Tapi kalau ko plan nak beli yang harga atas 1k jela."

"Memang bengong la kalau ada yang cakap ko ni high maintenance. Ni mesti dia tak nampak ko pakai henfon apa."

"Suka pink ek?"

"Ewww...so girlish."

Well, my first "high-tech" phone was a sony ericsson phone, which I bought with my first salary... harga masa tu adalah dalam RM500 (this was 6 years ago). Oklah, ada camera, walaupun tak high resolution. Used that for a bit more than 2 years before gatal nak pakai SE P1i pulak (handphone Sony Ericsson memang bagus ok, and I still think it's better than Nokia).

I really love my P1i, tapi entah kenapa masa aku heartbroken tu, P1i turut broken sekali selepas hampir 2 tahun bersama. Maybe after all those love messages etc sudah didelete, handphone itu turut mengalami penyakit jantung berlubang kot...and just died on me. Sebenarnya, boleh je repair.. but the phone had played a major role in this long distance relationship of mine that I couldn't bear to even look at it (now it's somewhere in one of those unpacked boxes kot).

So, off I went to look for a phone. I couldn't make up my mind of which one to buy, so I bought the RM99 LG pink phone first. After deciding and with a  lot of influence from TC, I bought my Nokia ExpressMusic 5800. Masa ni Iphone baru keluar kat Maxis, and 5800 ni pun baru keluar... TC already bought the Iphone and he said for me better just by the Nokia. So, aku pun belila.

The phone is ok, I especially like the quality of the speakers when I played my songlists. And it is fit for my purpose... tapi yang tak bestnya belum sampai 2 tahun dia sudah buat hal. Bila my surroundings sejuk je skrin itu akan jadi hitam and takleh nampak apa². Tapi, kalau orang call, still boleh bercakap except that I won't be able to know who's calling at the first place. Setiap kali dapat sms, kena restart phone dulu baru boleh baca. Rimas ok. My theory is: because I was traveling a lot for work and stay at hotels most of the time, the electromagnetic waves from the various entities (ghosts?) are messing with the electronics in my phone, and they are strongest when the surrounding is chilly (sebab tu bulu roma meremang kalau kita rasa macam ada benda yang scary).

That's why I pakai balik the cheap pink phone, dengan plan nak beli a new phone bila dapat bonus. But then, by the time dapat bonus tu..sudah sangat selesa pakai phone simple dan rasa macam membazir je beli phone mahal-mahal. Then, my company gives each of us a postpaid line and a budget to buy a phone, tapi tiba-tiba Celcom kasik free phone la pulak dengan that line. Lagi tak payah beli baru kan.

However, since I have this budget to buy new phone, rasa rugila pulak kalau tak pakai kan. So, pegila survey the smartphone packages offered by the different telcos... I finally decided to port-in to Celcom. As of yesterday, I'm officially a Celcom customer... rasa macam putus cinta siott bila tengok kat my phone the service provider sudah tukar dari Maxis ke Celcom... Maxis juga telah menghantar break-up sms yang memilukan hati. huhu...

Dan... handphone pink saya juga telah hilang pada minggu lepas. Sedih sebab dalam tu ada game Sudoku. Sekarang ni I pakai balik the Nokia phone, tapi kalau nak main Sudoku dia kena load dulu the puzzle dan tak best.

Minggu depan saya nak beli handphone baru pulak. Mungkin saya akan dapat boyfriend baru lepas ni? Ha hahahaha... tak boleh blah

things I doodle when I got sleepy...

Inspired by Madam E...

itulah padahnye bila banyak sangat kena attend meeting..bila ngantuk je, I'll try to distract myself by drawing things in my notebook... and what I doodled change with how many years I've been in the company...and yang obvious sekali, masa mula-mula masuk, 1st and 2nd year gitu, buku nota adalah bersih daripada doodle...apa kah...?

super bear....I thought nobody noticed, but when I asked my colleague, most of them knows I like to draw bears during meeting... hu hu

leaves...like the pattern I got on my ring

super rough sketches of my parents' retirement home (insyaAllah)

menangis (sebab stress), blooming tree (hope is still there)

sunshine...kalau rajin, I draw it with sunnies and a smiley face...like HERE

my school song, in BOTH Malay and English version, haha

random doodles which is then shaded alternately in black

planning travel itineraries

planning my travel budget

attempt in potraiture....this was supposed to be... Ella?

practicing my Hangul (Korean writing)

cats, bees, flowers...

how about you? do you doodle?

jejak kasih

a twist of fate (in this case an almost 4 hour wait at the Limbang-Brunei border), led us to getting in touch back with my mom's cousins in Bandar Seri Begawan...sebelum ni memang teringin nak carik balik diorang sebab masa kitorang kecik-kecik dulu memang selalu pergi menziarah, but eventually life got busier....

so, since the waiting at the border took up a lot of my energy, I decided to just check in into a hotel in Bandar and go cuti-cuti Brunei the next day....and idea brought me to track down my aunts and uncles using the phone directory and voila....we get to meet them up, talk over lunch...yada yada....and of all, add them on FB for mom's sake....

here's an 'old school' picture I found:

this is a photo of the aunts and uncles when they were little boys and girls....the 3 ladies are my maternal grandmother's sisters...I'm not familiar with the lady in the middle, but the other 2 neneks always went to my grandmother's house and also visited us at Kuching at times...

even though they're long gone by now, they still form a part of my childhood memories.

my old blog on fotopages

In 2007, I started a blog...masa tu I was in the process of getting to know my ex, but I was away in Holland for a month. He asked me to post some pictures of places I've been to, tapi masa tu belum ada facebook lagi....so I upload la gambar-gambar and write some words on it...kalau rajin, pergila jenguk ye...typical lazy me, gambar-gambar yang saya upload kat situ semuanya tunggang terbalik. =P

I'll put the flowers for you to step on

I have no idea what to post for today so I went looking into my drafts. This is a note I wrote a day after I broke up on my FB notes....hancur giler hati masa tu....sebab tulah tulis macam-macam...I removed it from my FB the day after though. Since I'm 100 times ok now...so share jelah ngan korang..

I still remember my trip to South Korea with the sistas...lots of things to remember and one of it is this poem by Kim So Wol, apparently it is very popular...since you can buy it carved on a piece of rock and sold as deco in their equivalent of RM2 shop...for some reason, I still keep the words with me...this is the translation (though I think it does not really do justice to the poet who wote it beautifully in Korean)..

"If you don't love me
I will let you go without any comment
I'll put the flowers in front of you
Every step you take
Please step on the flowers

If you don't love me and go away from me
I'll never cry.."

But of course, at that time...I didn't have any idea what the future holds...I just know that regardless of how life treats you, you just have to take it on as it comes along..and see what comes next...

At the moment, I just feel tired and numb..nothing to be angry and worked up about...and I did just what Kim So Wol had written...letting go without any comment, the "flowers"...except for the last bit...eventually the tears will stop in time...like what a friend said, give your heart time to mend, but don't let it shatter...the best is yet to come, InsyaAllah

nak jadi 18? hmmmm.......

zaman kelia' suba (zaman dulu-dulu in Iban), the year is 2000 and I was 18:

fast forward 10 years:

hmmmm....good to know that after 10 years, I've finally discovered the wonders of makeup, can afford good skincare and narcissistic enough to pose nicely in photos....hahahahaha...but to weigh as much as I was 10 years ago would be super, super nice.

WHAT IS NARCISSISM?

also nar·cism (-sĭz'əm)
n.
  1. Excessive love or admiration of oneself. See synonyms at conceit.
  2. A psychological condition characterized by self-preoccupation, lack of empathy, and unconscious deficits in self-esteem.
  3. Erotic pleasure derived from contemplation or admiration of one's own body or self, especially as a fixation on or a regression to an infantile stage of development.
  4. The attribute of the human psyche charactized by admiration of oneself but within normal limits.

hmmmmm.....having a positive body image is one thing but being self-obsessed is a different thing....baik beringat nih.....

a reason to lose weight

kekerapan mengupdate blog semenjak dua menjak ini adalah kerana finally I got some sense of stability back...first time duduk in one place for more than a week....no rushing to the airport and packing unpacking (even though masih banyak baju yg belum dibasuh and suitcases are still on the floor)...

if you guys/girls have seen my flying schedule that I posted that day, actually 2 days since then it has changed again with more additional flights....more trips to KL for work (last week's trip I didn't call anyone because all I do after work is zzzzz...so glad this week's trip is canceled).

anyway, added a personal trip to Mukah for a friend's wedding.....I used to make annual road trips to Mukah during Kaul Festival but lately the road conditions have worsened, that even if I bring my D-max there pun macam kesian je nanti....so I decided to fly since my other friend from KL is coming to Miri so that we can go together....

of coursela Boeing tak terbang kalau setakat Miri-Mukah kan....airportnya pun kecil...so have to take Twin Otter...

twin otter ni muatannya tak banyak....agak² sampai tak 20 orang ek....can't remember coz the last time I've been on one was when I was 8, masa tu nak balik kampung ke Limbang....naik with my mum and adik²ku yang masih kecil lagi masa itu...we flew Kuching-Miri and from Miri kena naik 'belon' kecik ni....twin otter ni kalau angin tiup sikit pun dia goyang....and kalau lalu bukit tinggi-tinggi tu macam boleh pegang je pokok-pokok kat bawah....that's why la kalau cuaca buruk, flight memang akan dibatalkan sama sekali...and kes-kes yang kapal terbang terhempas somewhere in rural Sarawak biasanya melibatkan twin otter la...na'uzubillah but these kind of things happen...

kalau nak naik twin otter masa check-in tu kena timbang berat badan tau....apart from your luggage. This reminds me of my offshore days dulu-dulu.....nak naik chopper (heli) mesti kena timbang berat badan dulu. It's not that bad at the helibase, even though mamat kat check-in tu look like he's trying to suppress a smile or a snicker lepas dia timbang aku....the worse one would be at the rig itself. We will have to weigh ourselves and luggages the night before we take the chopper home. Then , the RO will put it in a spreadsheet, print it out and put it in the noticeboard. So, the whole rig crew of 131 men will know exactly how much the princess weigh, which will result in people asking me to eat less setiap kali aku masuk galley....darn. It's not that bad if you go to a rig where you're not a regular though. The people are not mesra enough to talk to you freely like that, but then you can actually feel them talking about you..."hmmmm....inilah perempuan yang berat dia XXkg tu"...mind you, I've heard my own rig crew talking like that about friends of mine, regardless of how light or heavy they are... ~sigh..

so, nak naik twin otter bulan 12 ni....and I'll be weighed in public! a reason to lose weight? naaaahhh....I'll just check-in early or make sure nobody I know (or have a crush on) is nearby when I do it. :)

Jangan cemarkan...

This morning, I woke up with this song in my head. A song that took me back to the year 1993.

Oh sungguh tenang dan damai sungaiku,
Alam indah menawan sekali,
Dan kesucianmu sumber hidupku,
Warisan alam yang tiada tandingannya

Mengalir damai dan tenang,
Dari kampung hingga ke seberang,
Dari hulu jauh ke muara,
Tumpuan kehidupan bangsaku

Jangan cemarkan Sungai Sarawak,
Jangan cemarkan,
Warisan yang tiada tandingannya..

I was singing it while I was doing my morning business, while I was brushing my teeth and I’m still singing it now…The song is written by Mr Kamil Salim and his wife, and our little group from our school was asked to sing it. Madam Allizah made us practice all the cute moves. We sang it 2 times, once in Pengkalan Sapi (yang dulunya cantik) and once in the Kuching Waterfront amphitheatre, for opening and closing ceremonies of “Cintailah Sungai Kita” campaign. I remembered me and my friends’ faces (5 or 6 of us) were in the front page of Utusan Sarawak….but of coursela, my family didn’t keep the newspaper cutting, we’re not sentimental enough to do that…hope my other friends did.

Those were the times when we thought they’re going to clean Sungai Sarawak, provide proper sewage system and good life for people living beside the river….but of course la, few years after, he-who-thinks-he-own-Sarawak turned it into a bottled water business….and people who live beside the river are facing possibilities that they might be relocated to a land far, far away to give way for impressive buildings to emerge, not to mention the flash floods that seem to occur more frequently and severe every time the rainy season comes….the floods that beat even the Great Kuching Flood 60++ years ago….huh!

Oooopsss, I’ve said too much.

Of food, good friends and good memories

I’ve been doing a little bit of cooking lately, partly to keep my house feel like a home, not just where I come back to bathe and sleep.

You see, when you live all by yourself, you don’t even feel the need to eat, let alone cook. I only cook if I’m extremely lazy to drive and very close to dying of starvation (since I’m not a fan of instant noodles). But then again, sometimes cooking for one is depressing. That’s why I invited friends over to share my home cooked meals, and surprised my parents when they found out that their rarely-in-the-kitchen daughter actually cooks!

At home, I only work in the kitchen when it’s almost Hari Raya, and that is to bake cakes and cookies. On the rare occasions that I cook, my family will keep a steady stream of praises. Even DAD will help out in the kitchen. However, I knew that I must have done something right if my youngest brother and sister keep asking for more. They simply don’t know how to fake a food orgasm. Huhu~

Back in my university days, cooking means (a) we’re on a tight budget or (b) we’re tired of eating out. My housemates are not fans of Maggi mee as well, so breakfast for us was ‘roti canai’ or fried noodles in Pak Lah’s canteen or nasi lemak Mak Cik Sayang (a must on weekends), again to Pak Lah’s and the café at Alam Bina for lunch (sometimes we went to Perdanasiswa or Baktisiswa too). For dinner, it will be ‘nasi kerabu’ with salted duck eggs and grilled beef strips (daging bakar) yang dibeli daripada penjual² kat Vista sebaik saja kitorang turun dari bas…sedap beb dan murah RM2.50 sahaja. Diselang-selikan with ‘kuetiau kungfu’ or kampong fried rice from the stalls across the road (now the stalls have been demolished). Not to mention the stalls there is also where we buy our lunch during weekend…my favorite is ‘ikan percik’…daym, life was good even though takde gaji bulan-bulan and have to take the bus or walk everywhere. When Zue is still living with us in Vista, dinner will usually be at Pak Abu (6th college) or Sahur (3rd college). Then, late at night, if we’re still up studying and got the hunger pangs, (of course, we had dinner at 6)…there is always biskut Tiger gula dan Milo 3 in 1 with Kay and/or Lydeng. Siap stock-up on the 3 in 1 during J-Card Day coz it’s cheaper.

Those days, when we do cook…the menu will always be fried rice and eggs. Maybe because it’s cheap. Another one is the special sardine recipe by Kay. The sardine is separated from the sauce and fried. Then, sos sardine tu ditumis balik dengan bawang dan cili boh…meleleh air liur. Lagi satu, sambal kentang with ikan bilis…pun meleleh air liur sebab bahagia. There was this one time, where all of us stayed back for a special semester. Due to lack of resources, we cooked everyday….each of us have our own stash of food, that we cook at our own convenience…mostly it will be fried chicken, fish, sausage, eggs and vegetable. Ida and Irma even took the opportunity to go on a diet and eat cereal and oatmeal most of the time. In Ramadhan, my housemates need to eat rice for sahur. Lauknya pulak is just serunding daging and the occasional sardine and eggs. Lepas tu, buat muka bodoh sampai azan Subuh, solat then tidur balik.

After the Hari Raya holidays is the open house season. Friends from KL will invite us to their houses and all the yummy food are served. Every year, memang tak miss pegi rumah Muniza, Ciput, Kay, etc etc. Kitorang pun tak ketinggalan buat open house. It was a trend for students staying together tong-tong duit dan buat open house untuk menjamu rakan-rakan. Antara menu yang aku ingat kitorang pernah buat; laksa Sarawak, soto, nasi tomato. Rasanya mungkin kurang sedap sebab the future engineers at that time lagi rajin menengok buku sifir dari buku resepi, tapi at least sampai sekarang tak dengar cerita pasal orang kutuk belakang (maybe because those people don’t know who cook what, so can’t really point a finger on anybody).

Now, I can afford to buy a lot of things. Instead of a regular menu, sardine is something that I eat to bring back the happy memories. Instead of lepak kat gerai tepi jalan, sekarang nak lepak kat kedai makan sedap-sedap je…paling-paling pun Secret Recipe. Nak makan makanan Jepun, sanggup pergi luar negara (Brunei). Nak ambik lauk nasi campur for lunch pun dah tak payah agak-agak budget berapa. Mengada-ngada pulak rasanya, tapi Alhamdulillah di atas rezeki yang ada. Living in a town where lepak place and good food is limited, we always end up at same places and rotating them. We’ll go out when any of us need good food, good laugh and good company, a term that is coined by Suraya. But these sessions have helped out a lot. To my friends, thank you very much for your good company. I also enjoyed cooking for you all coz you don’t complaint, even if sometimes you have to sample my experiments.

So, why do I cook again? First, it started when my brother stayed with me and insist on home cooked meals so he can tambah the rice as much as he wants. Then, my sister who is hungry all the time came and she doesn’t like to eat out that much. I guess you can call it cooking with love. And I have a friend who loves me so much that she cooks nasi kerabu to see my HAPPY face.

P/S: Tomorrow is the 15th of Syaaban (Nisfu Syaaban)….hari tukar buku sedunia. Hopefully my good deeds outdo the bad ones. And it also means full moon…which is a good time to eat crabs. Time for chilli crab chin chai…can’t wait to sink my teeth into the crab’s succulent meat. Slurp!

Biarkan semua kenangan berlalu
