hmmmmm....

the downside of looking younger than your age:

-people don't take you seriously
-they treat you like kindergarten's students
-you're not being spoken to coz they thought you're an intern
-they thought you're gullible

but you'll love the surprise on their faces though

11 days...

just checked-in...the room is smaller than Nikko (Nikko is almost 2 times bigger) and I have to walk quite far to work tomorrow...but at least the room is brighter, less depressing and the most important it has StarWorld (Channel 711)!!!!!!!! It's a difficult live without my favorite channel...huhu drama drama...

I'm quite nervous actually. Will I have enough time to finish my tasks? Aduiyai....hopefully I will...not planning to make business trips again until end of the year.....I want to entertain my family who are coming to Miri one whole week...woot woot can't wait!

These are the view from my window for this couple of weeks:

Delhi chatter

dah ramai dah orang tanya about my experiences in Delhi...penat la jugak nak re-live the misadventures over and over again kan....so, I'm thinking of writing it here and ask them to go and read it later.....so people watch this space....at the mean time, I want to share this article from www.hotelchatter.com :

p/s: I said Delhi instead of India, coz I think different parts of India the experience is definitely going to be different

No Room at the Inn in India

Where: India
November 27, 2006 at 9:53 AM | by Tim L. 0 Comments
For a while now, there have been reports that the hotel scene in India is getting overheated. But are you ready to pony up $450 a night in New Delhi?
According to an AP article that ran over the weekend, demand for hotel rooms in India has gone from "heavy" to "sold out." This won't come as a shock to anyone who has traveled to underbuilt Bangalore in the past few years, but the problem is now extending to most large cities and tourist centers.
India "immediately needs another 100,000 rooms" -- more than double the current amount -- said Lalit Suri, the chairman and managing director of India's Bharat Hotels. He estimated that would require investment of up to $17.4 billion.
A total of 300 hotel projects have been approved by the government and are in varying stages of development.... Most are likely to be completed in the next three years and should increase capacity by about 75,000 rooms, he said.
Nearly half of the new projects are luxury hotels, and account for about $1.58 billion in investment....
So if you're heading to India expecting to find a bargain--which would normally be logical considering the average earnings here--think again. The average price of a 5-star hotel in India has climbed to $325 a night.

I'll put the flowers for you to step on

I have no idea what to post for today so I went looking into my drafts. This is a note I wrote a day after I broke up on my FB notes....hancur giler hati masa tu....sebab tulah tulis macam-macam...I removed it from my FB the day after though. Since I'm 100 times ok now...so share jelah ngan korang..

I still remember my trip to South Korea with the sistas...lots of things to remember and one of it is this poem by Kim So Wol, apparently it is very popular...since you can buy it carved on a piece of rock and sold as deco in their equivalent of RM2 shop...for some reason, I still keep the words with me...this is the translation (though I think it does not really do justice to the poet who wote it beautifully in Korean)..

"If you don't love me
I will let you go without any comment
I'll put the flowers in front of you
Every step you take
Please step on the flowers

If you don't love me and go away from me
I'll never cry.."

But of course, at that time...I didn't have any idea what the future holds...I just know that regardless of how life treats you, you just have to take it on as it comes along..and see what comes next...

At the moment, I just feel tired and numb..nothing to be angry and worked up about...and I did just what Kim So Wol had written...letting go without any comment, the "flowers"...except for the last bit...eventually the tears will stop in time...like what a friend said, give your heart time to mend, but don't let it shatter...the best is yet to come, InsyaAllah

Delhi on the metro = frantic

I'll elaborate about what happened today next time.....not so keen in relieving the experience I had today....

memang tak putus-putus mulut berdoa tadi....

Hopefully esok semuanya berjalan lancar.

We're taking the A/C super luxury coach to Agra. Hopefully it will live up to its name....

nak naik train, confirm ramai orang....train kat sini pelik, even though ko dah beli tiket, kalau seat takde, they'll just refund your money....maka terkapai-kapaila ko cari jalan pulang sendiri....

kalau naik kereta (with driver), harga dia Rs11000 (almost RM800) untuk kitorang berdua.....after our experience today, I realize the value of comfort in this overpopulated place, but I don't have RM800, even though pagi tadi aku sudah berjaya keluarkan duit dari HSBC,,,huhu

so, bus it is.....please pray for my safe journey ya....

P/S: macam mana la agaknye kesesakan orang pada musim haji ek?

broke in Delhi

lintas langsung dari Pahar Ganj, New Delhi

a long story to tell...but right now I just nak cerita pasal kisah beli sari...

kain sari yang murah² takde yang berkenan di mata saya

kain sari cotton colour dia agak dull

saya rasa sangat bodoh semasa membeli kain itu....tak tau betul ke tidak...

and I don't buy things that I don't like for my loved ones...

resulting in overspending.....darn....

if the money transfer doesn't get through by tomorrow....kempunanla aku nak gi Agra tengok Taj Mahal

duduk diam² dalam bilik jelah jawabnya since me and my brother only have about USD120 between us to last until Sunday....

puh puh...harap² CIMB jangan lembab sangat...

The Amazing Race Asia 4

hari ni pun nak cerita pasal reality show lagi...

Masa TARA 1, rajin tengok...TARA 2 pun ok lagi...tapi lepas tu rasa macam mengada-ngada je participants dia (aka asyik ambik celebrity je baik tak payah)...so malas la nak tengok sangat....hari tu tertengok TARA 4 dan terus minat balik nak tengok....so far, ni lah my favorite team:

Natasha Sutadisastra, 24, Legal Admin | Hussein Baron S., 53, Educator

Father and Daughter, Indonesia

Even before the race has begun, Natasha and Hussein have already broken a new TARA record, by being the first father-daughter team in the show’s history!

Natasha is without doubt, the quintessential daddy’s girl. The affection between the two is palpable, for Hussein practically beams with pride when he talks about his daughter, who was recently crowned Miss South Jakarta 2007.

Having resided in the US, China and Canada for a number of years and toured much of Asia, Africa and Europe, Hussein is as seasoned a traveller as they come. Despite her youth, Natasha is catching up fast with her dad in clocking global adventures. As avid fans of the show, the globe-trotters have been hard at work, poring over every detail of all three seasons of TARA, as well as the US version, while building up their fitness at the same time.

They have always treasured spending quality time with each other; in fact, Natasha introduced him to Facebook and even clubs with Dad! For Hussein, the race is one of the very last opportunities for them to hang out together, before Natasha gets married. Aww.

Suka diorang ni...tak taula apa nasib diorang lepas ni....tapi dah jadi model iklan telco Indonesia ni....well, if they get eliminated (which would be too bad), we still can root for Ethan & Khairi...our very own Malaysian team! Woot woot!

P/S: to those driving back for raya, be safe!
Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladaha

Biggest Loser Asia 2

I didn't really watch BLA Season 2. During the BLA Season 1, I always make sure that I'm home to sit in front of the TV and watch it....lagipun, saya suka minah ni:

tapi bila BLA Season 2 punya host dah bertukar jadi minah ni, it became one of the reasons for me to lose interest in watching it:

she's super sweet and nice in the show, tapi macam ada missing link la....minah ni pernah ke jadi cik tembun?

then, BLA Season 1, ada mamat nih:

si Aaron yang dari Malaysia tu pun not bad jugak...and the girls are not bad looking too...

but for this BLA Season 2, this is my favorite participant:

FISH!!! a.k.a Nurhafizah bt Mohammed from Singapore....I like this girl as well as her personality. She has lost 24 kg so far....from 96 to 72kg uols....aku harap takde orang dengki2 nak eliminate dia before they reach the individual challenge tu....hopefully she'll make it to the finals...

P/S: all these posts were auto-published tau....I don't bring my laptop when I travel

I Write Like...

My friends Fatma and Hana checked out this website  I Write Like and check out which author are their writing style most similar to. All you have to do is copy and paste anything that you have written into the empty box and they will get analyzed. I put in the piece I wrote about food and friends and here is the result:

I write like
Cory Doctorow
I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

So, who is this Cory Doctorow? I got this from Wikipedia:

Cory Doctorow (born July 17, 1971) is a Canadian blogger, journalist, and science fiction author who serves as co-editor of the blog Boing Boing. He is an activist in favour of liberalising copyright laws and a proponent of the Creative Commons organisation, using some of their licences for his books. Some common themes of his work include digital rights management, file sharing, and post-scarcity economics.

What happened when I put this "pantun" in Bahasa Melayu Sarawak?

Apek tua menjajak sireh, Sireh dijajak denganlah budu, Cantek molek kamek sik mileh, Asal jangan mata mengkudu.
Anak manok terciak ciak, Anak bekut empirok bah batang, Orangnya tua macam nembiak, Siknya sedar maut mok datang.

I write like

I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

macam haram punya application.. :S

nak jadi 18? hmmmm.......

zaman kelia' suba (zaman dulu-dulu in Iban), the year is 2000 and I was 18:

fast forward 10 years:

hmmmm....good to know that after 10 years, I've finally discovered the wonders of makeup, can afford good skincare and narcissistic enough to pose nicely in photos....hahahahaha...but to weigh as much as I was 10 years ago would be super, super nice.

WHAT IS NARCISSISM?

also nar·cism (-sĭz'əm)
n.
  1. Excessive love or admiration of oneself. See synonyms at conceit.
  2. A psychological condition characterized by self-preoccupation, lack of empathy, and unconscious deficits in self-esteem.
  3. Erotic pleasure derived from contemplation or admiration of one's own body or self, especially as a fixation on or a regression to an infantile stage of development.
  4. The attribute of the human psyche charactized by admiration of oneself but within normal limits.

hmmmmm.....having a positive body image is one thing but being self-obsessed is a different thing....baik beringat nih.....

Charity Jumble Sale for Kedah Flood Victims

If you guys/girls out there are thinking of ways you can help out the flood victims in the northern states of West Malaysia, here's a post from my friend, Farina's blog.

Here's your chance to lend a helping hand.

We're having a jumble sale selling pre-loved items; clothes, books, kitchen utensils, handbags, toys, and lots lots more! There'd also be food (yours truly might be whipping something up too!) and drinks and LOTS OF FUN!

So make your way to

Event: Charity Jumble Sale
Date: 14th November 2010 (Sunday)
Time: 9am till late
Place: 14, Jalan Canggung 11/2F, 40100 Shah Alam, Selangor.

We welcome any form of donations in form of things and cash too. If you have tonnes of pre-loved stuffs lying around in the room, here's a good place to get rid of them. Not only you'll be clearing up the space in your overstuffed cupboard for new things *wink wink*you'd also be doing something good! You could send it to the abovementioned address, or you can give me a call to arrange for pick up. Yes, I would happily pick the stuffs up from your home. It's the least I could do for the tens of thousands people displaced by the floods up north.

100% hasil jualan akan digunakan untuk membantu mangsa banjir di Utara tanahair.

For more info, drop me a comment or email me at farinajamal@gmail.com. Kalau ada yang nak berganding bahu tolong jadi tukang jual on that day itself pun best jugak. Jom lah nanti saya belanja nasi ayam Pak Mal nak? (serius sedap, tak tipu punya!!)

Thanks korang!

p/s: Would really appreciate if you could spread the word in your blogs too. Dari kerendahan hati yang terdalam, saya ucapkan terima kasih!

....

I've enabled back the search engine's search option.

positive negative positive is whatever you make of it

Positive: I managed to revive my dead car battery and successfully installed it myself! Woot woot!!

Negative: An older colleague in the office called me 'pemalas'. I still don't know if it's a joke or not but I've decided that I don't care.

Positive: Had a good end of year discussion with my boss. And he didn't believe that I'll be turning 29 next year. He thought I'm 24. Hmmm.....maybe if I get a laser eye surgery and drop 15kg, I'll look 18.

Negative: My car battery went ka-put again and I'm too put off right now to do something about it.

Positive: Thank God I have a second car.

Negative: Another colleague/friend said even with my picky attitude when it comes to food, I am still twice his size. Sebenarnya, dia tu yang keding.

Positive: Last night, I went to the newly opened McDonald's in front of my house. Met a friend with her kids there. Her 4 year old daughter told her mum that she thinks I'm cute...SUKA!!  :-)

tak mampu dah nak shopping, so...

kudos to myself for not shopping for almost 2 weeks now....huhu...apa taknye, bulan 9 dah belanja besar untuk hari raya, bulan 10 hari tu every weekend travel tak hengat, and this month pulak dah janji dengan my parents nak kongsi buat korban and I'm also going to India just before hari gaji.....aduii, perit kot nak travel hujung² bulan ni....tapi apa boleh buat, tiket pun dah beli and we already spent a lot of money on the India visa...untuk pengetahuan korang, India visa ni mahal and agak tak berbaloila bagi aku....it will cost you RM168 per (tourist) visa and it only lasts for 6 months (during which you can only enter India for 2 times)... compare to US visa which costs ~RM400 for 10 years and the hassle-free Australia visa (boleh apply online je) which costs ~RM60....aku tak tau pasal benda ni semua masa beli tiket AirAsiaX ke Delhi hari tu....kalaulah ku tahu memang aku akan berfikir 2 kali la...tapi, dah beli tiket punya pasal, pergi je la kan....

so, since I have to be on a strict budget, I tried to limit my time in the shopping mall...so far, so good la....even kat KL aritu pun, after work and dinner, saya akan terus balik bilik instead of merayau-rayau di KLCC, kalau nak balik lambat pun sebab tengok movie je. Kat Miri lagila senang, since malas giler nak drive ke Bintang Plaza, in the occasions where friends pick me up and we did go to Bintang, I left my ATM and credit cards at home....even all the discount cards pun aku tak bawak so that kalau masuk Popular Book Store adalah alasan untuk tak membeli sebab kad diskaun tertinggal di rumah, rugi kalau beli sekarang.

kalau gi shopping pun, biasanya it's gonna be books, shoes, clothes and skincare/makeup la....makeup memang tak luak sangat coz I don't really use much, and luckily my skincare products masih belum habis lagi, so no need to replenish (pheww), clothes boleh lagi resist temptation sebab leceh nak try bla bla bla....but my weakness kalau gi mall adalah books and shoes...so sekarang ni saya 'shopping' (pinjam) buku from Zuma je...since she likes to buy books and some of her collection are of a different genre than mine...yeay! lots of chic lits for me to read!

pasal shoes pulak, sekarang ni takde selera sangat nak membeli kasut....since I injured my back a few times already, have to be really selective in the types of footwear that I buy....well, in the events where I feel I can't live without a certain cute pair of shoes, I will still buy it and wear it once in a while....but most of the time now, these are what I wear:

my CROCsy love affair:

Mary-Jane in red: this is the very first Crocs that I bought in mid 2008...tapak dia dah haus sikit but otherwise still in good condition...dah lama tak pakai though..

Rx Silver Fox Medical in Burgundy/Cotton Candy: one of my most favorite shoes, only sold at selected Crocs outlet, this one I ordered directly from Pinang Medical Supplies, one of their outlets is in Sunway Pyramid, sangat selesa kasut ini..

Malindi in turqoise: a friend of mine had these in egg yolk yellow, and I wanted one too, but I got this colour instead, nice for jalan² di hujung minggu

Lily in Gold/Chocolate: this pair of flats is simple and demure....boleh pakai ngan jeans, slacks or baju kurung...pergi ofis pun boleh. perfect for those days that you want to take a break from heels and wedges

Rio in Black: the latest addition in my Crocs collection. Since I can't bring my whole shoe rack to KL, so this is now my official KL working shoes...it's super light and comfy...paling penting it gives me the extra 3 inches of confidence (nampak tinggi dan kurus sikit hehe)...I also like the yellow colour one...sweet.

ini pulak what's in my current wishlist:

Crocs Sassari in black: this is for my mum....kat Kuching cari the black colour tak jumpa, kat KL size pulak takde...even kat gambar ni pun takde..so tunggu dulu lah ye...

Crocs Melbourne: cantik kan? not sure if it's already available in our market or not.....but I think this can be the next addition....but it's the least priority at the moment of course!

Well, some of you might say that I can get an imitation Crocs for a fraction of the price that I paid....but I think it's only applicable for those with dainty feet yang kecik tirus tu....or yang tak berjalan sangat....kaki gabak kuat berjalan macam yours truly ni memang kena beli yang ori...I found that the original Crocs will expand as you wear it longer, making it more comfortable for you, but after you put it back on the shelve it will retain back its shape...where else the imitation one bila pakai lama-lama akan mencengkam kaki....because the material used is stiff and kaki kita pulak mengembang mengikut keadaan dan suhu..downside/upside dia is since Crocs ni tahan lama, berjanggutla ko nak menunggu before you justify yourself a new pair of shoes.

So, as for myself, time strict budget macam ni, baik takyah beli apa-apa. :)

a reason to lose weight

kekerapan mengupdate blog semenjak dua menjak ini adalah kerana finally I got some sense of stability back...first time duduk in one place for more than a week....no rushing to the airport and packing unpacking (even though masih banyak baju yg belum dibasuh and suitcases are still on the floor)...

if you guys/girls have seen my flying schedule that I posted that day, actually 2 days since then it has changed again with more additional flights....more trips to KL for work (last week's trip I didn't call anyone because all I do after work is zzzzz...so glad this week's trip is canceled).

anyway, added a personal trip to Mukah for a friend's wedding.....I used to make annual road trips to Mukah during Kaul Festival but lately the road conditions have worsened, that even if I bring my D-max there pun macam kesian je nanti....so I decided to fly since my other friend from KL is coming to Miri so that we can go together....

of coursela Boeing tak terbang kalau setakat Miri-Mukah kan....airportnya pun kecil...so have to take Twin Otter...

twin otter ni muatannya tak banyak....agak² sampai tak 20 orang ek....can't remember coz the last time I've been on one was when I was 8, masa tu nak balik kampung ke Limbang....naik with my mum and adik²ku yang masih kecil lagi masa itu...we flew Kuching-Miri and from Miri kena naik 'belon' kecik ni....twin otter ni kalau angin tiup sikit pun dia goyang....and kalau lalu bukit tinggi-tinggi tu macam boleh pegang je pokok-pokok kat bawah....that's why la kalau cuaca buruk, flight memang akan dibatalkan sama sekali...and kes-kes yang kapal terbang terhempas somewhere in rural Sarawak biasanya melibatkan twin otter la...na'uzubillah but these kind of things happen...

kalau nak naik twin otter masa check-in tu kena timbang berat badan tau....apart from your luggage. This reminds me of my offshore days dulu-dulu.....nak naik chopper (heli) mesti kena timbang berat badan dulu. It's not that bad at the helibase, even though mamat kat check-in tu look like he's trying to suppress a smile or a snicker lepas dia timbang aku....the worse one would be at the rig itself. We will have to weigh ourselves and luggages the night before we take the chopper home. Then , the RO will put it in a spreadsheet, print it out and put it in the noticeboard. So, the whole rig crew of 131 men will know exactly how much the princess weigh, which will result in people asking me to eat less setiap kali aku masuk galley....darn. It's not that bad if you go to a rig where you're not a regular though. The people are not mesra enough to talk to you freely like that, but then you can actually feel them talking about you..."hmmmm....inilah perempuan yang berat dia XXkg tu"...mind you, I've heard my own rig crew talking like that about friends of mine, regardless of how light or heavy they are... ~sigh..

so, nak naik twin otter bulan 12 ni....and I'll be weighed in public! a reason to lose weight? naaaahhh....I'll just check-in early or make sure nobody I know (or have a crush on) is nearby when I do it. :)

BB Cream vs That Gal

ok ini dia gambar² yang aku nak upload:

using Benefit's "That Gal" masa majlis Ern kat Muar

using Skinfood's Peach Sake BB Cream #2 masa gi Ern nye majlis kat KK

nampak tak the difference? both pics were taken ~4 hours after application and masa panas terik.

That Gal aku sudah habis, so....

hari tu aku beli Benefit "That Gal" as a primer (dan juga boleh dipakai begitu sahaja) untuk muka pinkish berseri.

tapi, baru-baru ini, "perempuan itu" sudah habis la pulak....

it took me a month actually before I decided to buy "That Gal"...the justification was I need it for Raya and it's the only makeup item that I'm buying for Raya this year anyway....

so, bila dia habis, hati ini teragak-agak semula nak beli ke tidak....despite the rave reviews and the fact that I'm loving it....ia juga:

- mahal: RM129 for 11ml and it only lasted me for 2 months.
- midday muka saya akan mula berminyak
- because it is pink-based, during days when the weather is very hot, muka saya yang memang senang nak merah ni menjadi merah menyala lagi
- it doesn't really have SPF properties
- membazir je saya beli blusher sebab with "That Gal", I don't really need it anymore
- saya still kena tepek bedak Miyami saya tu lebih sebab coverage "That Gal" tak menyeluruh sangat...

So, since masa benda tu habis I kat Miri and minggu depan tu baru I pegi KL lagi....hati sudah tak senang duduk....so since pergi Skin Food to replenish my moisturiser, ternampakla benda ini:

Skinfood Peach Sake BB Cream

Sales assistant tu cuba-cuba sikit kan skin saya....and saya yang tengah mamai membeli dan bawa balik rumah dan pakai...so far, this is what I think of it (after 2 minggu lebih pakai):

- murah: RM44.90 for 30ml....even though susah nak kontrol volume yang keluar sekali picit, but I'm sure it will last more than 2 months
- muka lambat sikit nak berminyak, but it's not easily washed-off by water macam That Gal...kena guna facial wash jugak
- yellow-based and it only come in 2 tones; fair and natural. I pakai natural punye. Yang fair tu kalau cina bolehla pakai.
- SPF20 uols!
- boleh pakai blusher pada hari-hari menggatal
- dia tak tebal, but then kalau tak payah tepek bedak pun takpe....I still letak bedak sikit² kat T-Zone though

for reviews pasal BB Cream ni, sila pergi sini ---> CLICK

I'll post my photos for you to see the difference la between pakai "That Gal" ngan Skinfood BB Cream ok...sekarang tengah ada sikit problem mau upload.

*NOTE: BB Cream stands for Blemish Balm Cream
